Resort Cabanas: The Importance of Planning Ahead

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control announced that fully vaccinated Americans will no longer endure mask mandates when indoors or outdoors. This news comes as a pleasant surprise for resort properties all across the country which have seen a marked slowdown in their guest populations since the start of the pandemic. From our perspective, we’re looking forward to seeing our clients reopen for business, and for the tourism sector overall to start making its comeback.

Amid the excitement, however, is a major lesson that’s over the horizon. Supply chains are about to have extremely high order volumes as revenue streams and infrastructure spending start to inch back towards their pre-COVID norms. That’s why it’s crucial for resort entities to start planning ahead, especially when it comes to upgrades to their pool amenities.

Backorders: The First Signs of Reawakening

When COVID-19 first hit our shores, global supply chains took a major hit. Where once it was easy to get raw materials from a variety of international sources, the travel industry learned very quickly that there may be a new reality as many crucial components to pool infrastructure amenities had their factories temporarily shut down. With that said, along with the drop in supply, came a decrease in demand. So for the past year, manufacturers have largely been able to keep up with the order volume just fine.

Starting now, however, we’re going to see purchases ramp up once again, as more Americans are going to head to resort pools to cool off during the warmer summer months ahead. It’s going to be an interesting dynamic for manufacturers. The lag in production is projected to finally catch up to the rising demand, meaning longer wait times for materials since everyone will be placing new orders at once. While that sounds inconvenient, we’re excited for it. It’s a sign that the economy is coming back into its own, and that tourism is finally reawakening after a long hibernation.

How Resort Properties can Plan Ahead

If you’re thinking about adding some new cabanas and other amenities to your resort’s pool deck this summer, the time to act is now. Without the short turnaround windows we’ve grown accustomed to over the years, resort managers will need to think two steps ahead in order for their orders to arrive when they need them to. Commercial inquiries and purchases are starting to increase, and extended product delivery time frames will become commonplace for the next few months.

Adequately adjusting your timelines now will save you big in the future. Preparation will be a central theme in the industry’s recovery efforts, and properties that invest in their infrastructure upgrades ahead of time are certain to reap the rewards during the most popular months of the year. At Eide Industries, we’re here to help you make that a reality, every step of the way.
