It’s that time of year again.  College students and families across the country are getting ready to pack their bags and enjoy some fun in the sun.  Spring break is the unofficial launch of the tourist season for many resorts, so it’s important to consider whether you’re prepared!  From taking stock of your property’s outdoor assets to upgrading your amenities with pool cabanas, this checklist will help you start the season off right.

1. Check Your Outdoor Assets

From the stability of outdoor furniture to the canvas of pool cabanas to the functionality of umbrellas, now is the time to see how well your outdoor assets survived the off-season.  Whether portable assets are coming out of storage or they’ve remained in place through the winter, it’s better for your maintenance crew to know what needs to be cleaned, fixed, or replaced – instead of scrambling once the crowds arrive.

2. Implement Upgrades

Enhancing guests’ experiences is a goal for every hotel and resort operator, and upgrading outdoor amenities is a great way to accomplish it.  Consider purchasing top-quality furniture for your outdoor patios, pool deck, and beach area.  If you’re disappointed in how your poolside or café umbrellas stood up to heavy use last season, it may be time to explore other options – like commercial-grade pool cabanas or retractable awnings.

3. Plan Special Events

The spring break crowd is looking for a break from the monotony of everyday life – so why not plan ahead with some fun special events.  From something simple and low-key (like creating locally-inspired tasting rooms in your pool cabanas) to something more high-energy (like a DJ’d pool party), your on-site events add those valuable touches that make guests return year after year.

4. Prepare Promotions

In the age of digital marketing, online promotions are the key for a “no vacancy” spring break season.  Market your spring break excitement with a photo contest (spreading the word and building your following) or cast a wider net with an online giveaway.  The options are only limited by your imagination.
