social media for hotels

Social media is constantly changing the game for businesses, and we have to keep up or be left behind. What is your hotel doing to appeal more to social media savvy guests? A wide variety of strategies can be used to attract customers and gain brand recognition for your hotel. Here just a few social media tips and tricks that can help your hotel get more attention—and business.

Selfie-friendly spot

With the popularity of photo-driven Instagram, any hotel or destination with a captivating design feature is fodder for social media sharing (consider the famous fountains in front of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas or the banana leaf wallpaper inside the Beverly Hills Hotel). User-generated content has a 4.5 percent higher conversion rate on Instagram, so anything that inspires selfies at your hotel is effective.

An Instagrammable location can be as simple as having a feature wall in the lobby where guests will want to snap a photo while at an event or staying at your hotel. Be sure to include plenty of space for people taking their selfies as well as general circulation in the lobby area. Outdoors, a luxurious cabana and lounge area with flowy curtains or a landmark architectural feature in front of the hotel are perfect selfie-taking opportunities for guests.

Instagram story ads

Speaking of Instagram, this platform is new to the hospitality industry. Use Instagram ads and high-quality photos of your hotel’s prime amenities to catch people’s eyes. Make sure whichever images you use are something that causes users to pause. You can also show off highlights of your hotel in a short video ad. Whatever you share on Instagram, make it memorable.

Promote events

If your hotel has social media channels, be sure to promote any events at your hotel. This not only gets the word out on your hotel—and the fact that it’s an event venue—but you can also use the opportunity to cross-promote your hotel with any other organization involved with the event, which can help grow both of your audiences.

Wifi connectivity and tech

Nothing’s worse than holding an event where the wifi is spotty. Nowadays, hotels need to have the best wifi connectivity possible to give guests and those attending events at your hotel the ability to cover the event live via social media. Also, provide video equipment and livestreaming capabilities for displaying the event live to make your venue much more attractive to event planners.

Always keep in mind ways to make hosting events at your hotel more effortless and engaging so that it becomes one of the hottest venues in town.
