3 Things You Should Do to Attract Families to Your Hotel

Attract Families to Your Hotel

As a hotel or resort operator, you’re probably always looking for ways to maximize occupancy, especially as the cooler weather settles in and tourist season passes by.  An essential step in successful hotel marketing campaigns is to understand different types of guests (aka your audience), so you can tailor your services and messaging to address their needs.  So, if you want to attract families to the hotel property, it’s important to make sure your property is family-friendly and your marketing properly reflects it!

These three impactful tips are designed to help you attract more families to your hotel – and implementing them may be easier than you think!

#1 – Think “Convenience” and “Comfort”

We often assume parents are attracted to “fun” and “exciting” (and to some degree, they are).  But, if we’re being realistic, parents are ultimately more drawn to convenience and comfort when traveling with little ones.

So, take a look at the amenities you already offer and ask yourself what can be done to make them a little more accommodating to families’ needs.  For example, cabana rentals help keep kids in the shade and offer a place to nap without forcing parents to pack-up and head indoors.

#2 – Offer Childcare Hour(s)

Another way to attract families to your hotel is to speak directly to parents’ desire for a moment to themselves.  Even if you don’t want to offer a full-service daycare or babysitting service, you may want to consider offering specific childcare hours (with the understanding that parents must stay on the property).

For example, on certain evenings, you could have a standing “childcare” hour from 6:00-7:00 pm, so parents can treat themselves to a quiet dinner at your onsite restaurant.  You can probably find some local teachers and/or childcare providers who would love to earn a little extra money.

#3 – Incorporate Activities

Most hotel operators know that it’s important to entice guests to stay onsite as much as possible if they’re going to maximize revenue opportunities.  But most parents know that the key to a successful family vacation is to keep the kids entertained – which most often means venturing off the hotel grounds.

It’s possible to enjoy the best of both worlds by incorporating kid-friendly activities into your daily offerings.  For example, consider turning one of your cabanas into an arts and crafts “tent” by day and PG movie “theater” by night.
